Account Questions
Q: Can I stop receiving my statements in the mail?
A: Yes, with our Online Banking, you can opt to receive your statements online. UCFCU e-Statements provide your monthly account statements electronically, saving paper and helping you manage your finances online. They’re secure, easy to access, and stored for your convenience.
Q: Do I need to notify the credit union of my travel plans?
A: It is best practice to notify us if you are going to be traveling out of state and out of the country so that nothing will disrupt your ability to access your funds.
Who is eligible to join UCFCU?
If you live, work, worship, volunteer, or attend school in Allegheny, Washington, or Westmoreland Counties, Pennsylvania, you qualify to join.
Immediate family members or anyone living in the same household as a current member — including parents, children, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, or step/ adoptive relatives — are also eligible.
All that’s needed to become a member is a simple membership application and a $5 share deposit, which becomes your first share savings deposit and makes you an owner-member of our credit union. Once you join, you’re a member for life, even if you move out of the area or change jobs.

Lending
Q: I submitted an online application. How long until I hear about the status of that application?
A: We work on our loan applications on a first-come, first-served basis. One of our lending staff will reach out to you once they have had a chance to review your application. If you would like to set up an appointment to discuss an application, please contact us.
Q: I’m car shopping. Can I get pre-approved for a loan?
A: Yes, pre-approval available to help you shop confidently. UCFCU is also proud to partner with Keystone Lending Alliance (KLA). Through this program, you can finance your new or used car directly with UCFCU right at the dealership—without ever needing to call or stop into a branch. Contact us to get pre-approved.
Benefits of a Credit Union
Q: Why do I have to have a savings account?
A: Credit unions are member-owned. There is a minimum $5 deposit into a Savings Account required to be a member, and as a member, you are a part-owner of UCFCU. This means you have a say in how we are run. This is contrary to how a regular bank would be operated.
Q: Is UCFCU federally insured?
A: UCFCU is backed by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), and your funds are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). Your Share insurance coverage is similar to the deposit insurance coverage offered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The NCUSIF offers $250,000 in coverage to each share owner, per credit union, for each account ownership category.

Q: How are the Board of Directors chosen?
A: Contrary to regular banks, which hire individuals to fill these positions, our members have the ability to elect those appointed to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors represents our members in making decisions and upholding policies. The election for our board members is held yearly, and a ballot for voting will be mailed to our members, which can be returned by mail or dropped off at one of our offices. Learn more about our board of directors here.
